Larose Regional Park & Civic Center

History

Bayou Civic Club, Inc. was formed in 1973 to "coordinate, support, encourage, and advance charitable cultural, educational, recreational, creative, and social activities contributing to the well being of the human race." The organization was successful in securing a $1.8 million grant in 1979 for the construction of a civic center.

The Larose Regional Park and Civic Center was opened in May of 1981 and has become the home for a diverse cross-section of programs which promote cultural and economic development along with good health in the community. The Larose Regional Park features a half-mile, cement walking track as well as four lighted tennis courts, cement basketball courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, volleyball courts, a Bantam football field, a 160,000 gallon public swimming pool and facility, outside gathering pavilions and new playground equipment. The park also facilitates the parking of campers and motor homes. Guests are welcome any time of the year!

The Larose Civic Center continues to serve the South Lafourche community as the region's primary evacuation center, houses the local Sr. Citizen's Center, is home to the Larose branch of the Lafourche Parish Public Library, and also serves as a tourist center.

Without the continued support of volunteers and corporate friends, none of what we do here would be possible.
